Phoenix Foundations Workshops
3 days of practical, anatomy-led learning.
Join the HM team for the in-person Phoenix Foundations experience, with teaching, anatomical examination and supervised practical activities.
Phoenix Foundations is available through our 3-day workshops, with a recorded online workshop experience coming soon.
Two formats, one foundation
Phoenix Foundations, two ways to learn.
Both formats introduce the foundations of The Phoenix Way. In person, you join the teaching and take part in supervised practical activities. Online, you follow recorded workshop teaching and demonstrations.
For entry to HMB Pro, you need to complete either the in-person Phoenix Foundations workshop or Phoenix Foundations Online. You do not need to complete both.

Learn to recognise what the hoof is telling you.
Most people are never taught how to build a meaningful history of their horse's feet. Photographs may be taken inconsistently, changes between trims are easily missed and developing distortion may only be recognised after the horse becomes uncomfortable or lame.
An HM Workshop gives you 3 uninterrupted days to slow down, look closely and connect what you can see on the outside of the hoof with the anatomy inside it.
You will explore hoof-capsule divergence, anatomical balance and documented change through presentations, real case histories, dissections, demonstrations and supported hands-on trimming.
This is not about memorising one trim or copying a formula. It is about developing the observation and understanding needed to make better decisions for the individual horse.
On the final day, the learning widens to consider how movement, diet, environment and management, including track systems, can support the balanced foot and the health of the whole horse from the inside out.
Who is the workshop for?
- Owners who want to understand and advocate for their own horses
- People beginning to document changes in their horses' feet
- Owners who want to learn to trim
- Trimmers, farriers, vets, bodyworkers and other equine professionals
- Anyone questioning why a horse is repeatedly losing balance or soundness
- People considering the HMB professional pathway
"You do not need trimming experience. We teach balance from the ground up."
You do not need years of horse ownership or plans to become a professional. The workshop is designed for owners and experienced practitioners alike.
Everyone learns through hands-on work because handling the hoof, locating anatomical landmarks and seeing the effect of each decision creates an understanding that observation alone cannot provide.
This 3-day workshop provides foundational education for anyone who owns, cares for or works with horses. For some, it also becomes the first step towards the HMB professional pathway, but the workshop itself is not a professional qualification.
What to Expect
3 days built around looking closely.
In-Person Teaching
The HM teaching team works with attendees in real time, explaining the principles, answering questions and exploring each subject in depth.
Observation and Assessment
Learn to examine posture, movement, the hoof capsule and the relationships between the structures you can see.
Practical Cadaver Work
Develop practical skills using ethically sourced cadaver limbs. Work slowly, identify internal and external landmarks, practise tool use and explore how trimming decisions affect the structures inside the hoof.
Documented Case Studies
Work through rehabilitation cases using photographs, radiographs, timelines and documented changes in the hoof capsule.
Demonstrations
Watch experienced HM instructors demonstrate assessment, tool use and practical hoof work step by step.
Instructor Support
Learn in a small-group environment where questions are encouraged and individual guidance is available when you need it.

Part of Something Bigger
Become a Hoof Hero
A Hoof Hero is not defined by whether they trim.
It is someone who has chosen to look more closely, understand more deeply and take an active role in protecting the horse in front of them.
Some participants come because they want to trim their own horses. Others want to understand the care their horse receives, recognise developing imbalance and ask better questions. Professionals attend to deepen their observation and connect the external hoof with the anatomy inside it.
Whatever brought you to the workshop, you leave as part of a growing international community working to raise the standard of hoof care from the ground up.
Your Hoof Hero T-shirt
Everyone attending an HM Workshop for the first time receives an official Hoof Hero T-shirt.
It is not simply a workshop gift. It is a symbol of the time, effort and courage you have invested in becoming more informed and more involved in your horse's care.
At workshops around the world, returning participants arrive wearing theirs with pride.
Why Learn With HM
Led by the people who do the work.
Hoofing Marvellous workshops are delivered by experienced members of the HM teaching team - practitioners who work in hoof care and rehabilitation, document change over time, contribute to HM education and mentor owners and professionals worldwide.
Everything we teach is grounded in anatomy, careful observation, practical experience and documented rehabilitation. You are not simply learning a theory about hooves - you are learning a different way of seeing and understanding them.

The Experience
You arrive curious. You leave connected.
HM workshops bring together owners and professionals from every background. 3 days of shared learning, honest discussion and one-to-one support - and a community that continues long after the workshop ends.

Booking Information
3 full days. One complete experience.
Every HM workshop follows the same complete 3-day programme. Workshop cards show prices in your selected currency. After your booking and payment are confirmed, our team will email your private joining-information PDF, containing the full venue address, daily timings, workshop schedule, tool guidance and preparation information. Refreshments are provided. Lunch, accommodation and travel are not included.
Eligible customers may be able to spread payments using Klarna or Shop Pay Instalments. Available options are shown at checkout and depend on location, currency and provider approval.
Please read our Workshop Cancellations & Refunds policy before booking.
Why do workshop prices vary between countries?
Workshop prices are set locally to reflect the costs of delivering each event, including venues, cadaver materials, travel and logistics. They are not direct currency conversions of one worldwide price.
If you book a workshop outside your country, its price is displayed in your selected currency. You will see the final checkout amount before payment. If you are not seeing your preferred currency, use the country selector above the workshop cards.

Questions
Frequently asked questions.
- Who is the workshop for?
- HM workshops welcome committed horse owners, trimmers, farriers, vets, bodyworkers and other equine professionals who want to understand hoof health more deeply. The teaching supports different levels of experience, from owners beginning their learning to experienced working professionals.
- Who will teach the workshop?
- Each workshop is delivered by experienced members of the HM teaching team. Depending on the location, your instructors may include Lindsay, Garry, Asha or other HM team members. You are booking an HM workshop and will receive the same structured 3-day learning experience whichever members of the team are teaching.
- Will we work with live horses?
- No. The practical programme uses cadaver limbs so that every participant can work slowly and safely, receive individual instructor support and investigate the relationship between the external hoof and its internal anatomy. A living horse cannot reasonably stand while a group learns to hold and work on its feet, and beginners should not be asked to practise unfamiliar techniques on a live animal. The cadaver format allows far greater anatomical exploration without compromising the welfare or comfort of a horse.
- Do I need previous trimming experience?
- No. Practical work is supported throughout, and you can participate at your own level. Many attendees attend primarily to develop their observation, assessment and understanding rather than to learn how to trim professionally.
- Do I need to bring tools?
- Your joining-information PDF will explain which tools, if any, you should bring and what will be provided at your chosen workshop. Please wait for this guidance before purchasing specialist equipment.
- Where exactly is the workshop held?
- For the privacy of our hosts and venues, full addresses are not published publicly. The complete venue address, arrival information and local guidance are provided after booking in your workshop joining-information PDF.
- What happens after I book?
- After your booking and payment are confirmed, our team will email your joining-information PDF for your chosen workshop. This contains the full venue address, daily timings, schedule, tool guidance and preparation information. Please read it carefully before the workshop.
- What about accommodation and travel?
- Accommodation and travel are not included in the workshop price. Where available, the joining information will include local recommendations and useful travel notes for the area around the venue.
- Can I attend another HM workshop?
- Yes. If you have previously attended a full 3-day Hoofing Marvellous workshop, a limited number of returnee places are available at each workshop at half that workshop's standard price. For example, a USA workshop costs US$397.50 for returning attendees instead of the standard US$795. Previous attendance is verified before your discounted booking is accepted. If you pay in a different currency, your returnee price is half of the standard price shown in that currency at checkout. When the returnee places have been taken, you can join the returnee waiting list for that workshop.
- What is your cancellation and transfer policy?
- Places may be transferred to another HM workshop where availability allows. Please contact us as early as possible if your plans change, and the team will explain the options available under the booking terms.
Host an HM Workshop
Bring an HM Workshop to Your Area
HM workshops require more than a conventional teaching room. We need a suitable presentation space, a separate area for practical work and access to legally and appropriately sourced cadaver legs. If you have suitable local contacts, facilities and an interested equine community, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Approved workshop hosts receive one complimentary attendee place at the workshop they help to organise, provided the event proceeds and the agreed hosting requirements are met. The complimentary place has no cash value and cannot be transferred without HM’s agreement.
